It'll be back, I think there was server update or something so it's been down for a few days. I wish they'd openly communicate what's going on with it though and around when can we expect it to be back again. They have a Tumblr account for sharing news and announcements after all, please use it.

Also, I know your idea of a home page = free shitty Tumblr blog so you're maybe not aware of it but if you have your site hosted somewhere it's going to cost certain amount of money every month, depending on the scale and popularity it can be anything between few and tens of thousands dollars. Extra traffic, such as someone scraping the whole site, will crank that monthly total up and cost the owner more, possibly slow the site down for others etc. Doing that also ignores the creator's right to their content, many have the very simple "do not reupload anywhere" policy on place and that has now been blatantly ignored. I'm not against people making backups of things but there are right and wrong ways to go about it and this feels like it was mostly the wrong way.

i don't care. not doing massive archives is how you end up with blogs like sims2packrat (nothing against them by the way) desperately trying to gather things from defunct downloads and posts on sims 2 defaults asking if you happen to have lost defaults. coupled with the fact that, for some reason, whenever someone does something for gos and talks about it in other posts, they never link to their stuff in said posts, just gos itself, making the whole exercise redundant. sure, you can ask and wait for them to re-share the links if the site were to permanently be down, but you have to assume these folks also have lives to live and arent gonna be at your beck and call to answer your needs. having backups ready to go is preferable, no matter how whiny it makes everyone.

100%. i'm not the one who archived their site, but i feel the same way. people are trying to back your shit up because despite "the internet is forever" there is a tendency for things to just vanish. for good. and people who shared those things might not be around anymore either. imagine digging up and trying to email someone's hotmail address from 2008 and seeing if they still have those shoes you liked. lol it's not gonna happen. we are one month from the base game being 20 years old, people are going to packrat that data away so it doesn't disappear.
