re: all the sims 2 secrets

lots of anti sims 2 secrets today, guess i can use this opportunity to say that the sims 2 is NOT the best one in the series.

sims 3 surpasses the sims 2 by every single metric imo. yes, the lore and the premades are interesting, but i just find myself getting bored with it quickly.

and i never understood why people say the sims 3 sims looks like pudding? the graphics are fine, it's the perfect balance between cartoony (sims 4) and semi realistic (sims 2)

sims 2 definitely has nostalgia running it's popularity.

i get where you’re coming from but i disagree. i prefer how sims 2 doesn’t have story progression, as someone with ocd who plays whole hoods rather than single households it’s more fun to micromanage that way

Not like it's that much relevant to your comment, but: The base Sims 3 game doesn't have that much of a story progression either after people like you complained so much that they tuned it down to comply with people who couldn't let go of 2. You can turn off aging atp, and it'll be just like the Sims 2.

I've had games (w/o NRAAS) where no one deviated from what they were already doing, never progressed if they had a job, never had kids, etc, and the town just slowly died out.

And yet people still weren't happy!! Instead of shutting up and enjoying the game for what it was, they just moved on to complaining about the graphics--Which the Sims team could do nothing about because the graphics were at the core of the game. They went vack to playing 2 anyway so EA changed story progression for nothing. Makes me feel like Sims players will never be satisfied.

Thus comment wasn't necessarily directed at you. It just awoken something in me.

the secrets were more anti-TS2 premades than anti-TS2.

i guess there's nostalgia, but there is a slight influx of younger TS2 players who were very young or maybe not even born yet when the game was released. although i feel like one of their incentives for playing the game was to get into the premade drama seeing as they exclusively play them.

TS3 is also hard to run well for most people.

Yeah, I made #20 and I don't dislike TS2 at all. It's my favorite Sims and the one I consistently play. I'm just tired of the premades. They were ok at first but I've been sick of them for a solid decade now.

I feel that the Sims and the Sims 2 were similar but still a big step forward between the two games. They still play a lot like each other but Sims 2 was a huge update from the original and that's why people like it.

Sims 3 didn't give this same feeling to me, sure it introduced color wheel, moodlets, rabbit holes and open neighborhood but it destroyed how the genetics worked in Sims 2 (huge deal to me as I loved seeing how the offspring of my Sims turned out and if they'd inherit genetics from grandparents etc) in Sims 3 you get either/or from the parents and if you edit the father while the mother is pregnant your kid will mysteriously inherit his now dyed green hair and it pisses me off so badly. I hated the open world since I want to play and control all the Sims I create like in Sims 2 but Sims 3 would by default get them married to an ugly townies, produce 6 kids in their one bedroom apartment and so on the second I'd leave the lot to play another. Sure, you could edit that behavior with mods and I think in some later update(? It's been over 8 years since I've last touched Sims 3) but that made me very unhappy. Moodlets replaced visible moods your Sims had in Sims 2, in 2 you could tell your sim is angry from their expression, body language and behavior, in Sims 3 your sim will be like 😃 with their stupid gums showing as they smile like r*tards and you can read from the moodlet that they're, in fact, very angry. Open world in theory could have been nice but in game it just meant that a lot of my Sims time was wasted in waiting for them to arrive to the lot I wanted them. The routing was often so bad that my Sims were regularly arriving to work 2-4 hours late since they had to do a full sightseeing tour through the whole map, fun! Except not really. I got around it by pausing the game, zooming the camera on the lot and teleporting everybody in since I would have rather sat through a 30 second long loading screen than waited multiple real life minutes to get where I wanted. The gameplay is fine, but I always felt that it was made with legacy players who only play one family in mind rather or someone playing a single sim and trying to fulfill whatever goal they've set for them than for someone who plays all the families in Sims 2 so it just wasn't the right game for me. I also don't mind how the surroundings look like in the game but the Sims were, and still are, ugly as hell.

Sims 4 was a downgrade from Sims 3 as it removed pretty much all the key features from it (open neighborhood, color wheel) it's again clearly aimed at legacy players concentrating on one family only but also for photoshoot players I feel. Again, if you want to play all the Sims you create, good fucking luck, not happening without some serious modding. Moodlets in 4 are somehow even more useless than they are in Sims 3 which is an achievement but hey, you can angry poop now! Hahah, funny humor!!! NOT. I genuinely don't feel Sims 4 brought anything noticeable new on the table, it's more like I would have expected Sims 3 to be than game supposedly superior to it.

I feel that with Sims 5 or "Renee" they'll definitely bring open neighborhood back again claiming it's a new feature and now your Sims can walk around in town and do nothing since there's nothing to do (things to do sold separately in the brand new this-should-have-been-a-base-game-feature-but-we're-cashing-on-it-instead action packs, hooray!)

Summed up/TL;DR: it really depends on what you want from your game: micromanaging everything and actually emotional Sims with some challenge? Choose Sims 2. Playing single family/young adults only? Enjoying exploring and collecting shit? Choose either Sims 3 or 4 depending on which one appeals to you better due it's features.

The outside environments in ts3 are actually really pretty.
