i can kind of see where you're coming from op, a person's genetics and genealogy (and let's add in dreams while we're at it) are not usually very interesting to strangers. but i don't think it's a racism thing? i mean it's like if you play ts2 and see genetics go through the generations, it doesn't really mean anything to randos but seeing grandfather's eyes or w/e reappear is cool. besides i've seen poc discuss genetics too, not hair/eye color but other features like nose shape, height, etc, and it's just as boring then tbh

It is a racism thing though. They are just soooo proud of their blue eyes or their blond hair. A lot of them even admit that and talk about how ugly brown eyes are. The thing about depression is that it can be purely chemical in nature. And your life sucking is the chicken or the egg situation. Are you depressed because you life sucks, or does your life suck because of your depression?
I'm not going to pretend that medications are perfect. There are side effects, your brain does form a dependency, and it might take a long time for you to find the right medication or combination of medications for you to get what you need. I know, I've been through it.
I guess my question is, what do you want to hear? "It gets better boo xoxo"
Empty platitudes aren't going to fix whatever is wrong in your life. You have to do that, and yes, in some cases, that involves getting medicated.

and what pisses me off as well is how people respond with that shit every time to someone saying "my life sucks" and you can just tell what they're really thinking is "you're bothering me by talking about that, you're making me uncomfortable, but I'm a nice person so I have to do something to help you" and "helping" is telling them to drug themselves

The sad truth is, is that everyone is dealing with their own shit. They might not have the energy to give you the paragraphs of coddling and affirmations you need, especially when they don't even know your situation fully. "Go to therapy" or "Try medication" is constructive advice. It maybe blunt and short, but it doesn't come from a bad place. If you want your life to get better, you have to start somewhere. It doesn't just happen, not to most people.
