I'm under the impression that the pink flashing is to do with cc, specifically high poly stuff that the game can't handle. Since all EA may have done, was make it easier to launch and play the games, without pissing around with a whole lot of 3rd party apps I'm not surprised that is happening. To avoid that the game would have had to a complete remake.

I think it is hilarious they left out the bodyshop.

It's running out of texture memory because Windows isn't freeing it. When I installed it on my current computer I tried it completely vanilla and still got pink flashing after loading few maxis lots and going back to the neighborhood few times, it didn't even take many minutes. My standby memory was completely full from that already and it instantly started flashing pink. I tried all suggested fixes, allowing it more memory, 4gb patch, graphics rules fixes etc but only the empty standby list finally fixed it for me - but your mileage may vary since nobody has the same combination of hard- and software on their system.
