I don't get it either. Why even bother if you're going to vastly change them? When I do a "makeover" I never touch facial features or eye/skin/hair color, but like, when people change them to such a huge extent why call it a makeover? I don't care what other people do, if you wanna make all the Sims in your game white or whatever go for it, I don't give a fuck, but once you make them blond and blue eyed it's just really not Pascal Curious anymore, y'know?

i agree with you mostly, but i think the appeal is a mixture of the editor wanting to make the character more attractive to their own tastes and wanting to use the existing narrative as a base for their own creativity. it's like an extreme au fanfic.
